Money has two main functions: 1. Efficient medium of exchange. 2. Store of value. The quantity and quality of goods and services that a unit of a given currency can buy represents its purchasing power, which is nothing other than the value of the currency. The money supply needs to stay at a reasonable pace with the country’s economic growth. As production increases, more money must be injected into the economy to sustain production and avoid a liquidity crisis. But if the money supply increases without an increase in production, it simply means that more currency is created to buy the same amount of goods. I won’t smile sweetly and tell them how happy it makes me. However, judging myself is more difficult. As someone who has always been poor, I can’t imagine ever being comforted with expensive frivolous purchases, even if I were suddenly rich. There are some expensive things that I would consider unnecessary but an acceptable luxury. If I suddenly find myself in a wealthy position, I would be fine with buying a house with a pool or a boat. I would need a lot of it, and at least the pool would improve my health.
